Danny sprang into action when his colleague, Suzanne, fell to the floor without warning. He quickly began chest compressions while someone else called 999 and waited with the defibrillator.
When the paramedics arrived and took over, Suzanne was unresponsive but stable thanks to Danny's quickness to act.
“I would like to think that in my case, in the office and with my first aid training, I didn’t hesitate to start compressions on Suzanne.”
Danny: I can see how there is anxiety about giving CPR to a woman and how an average person without first aid training would hesitate.
“If we’d had to use the defibrillator, I would have felt really uncomfortable undoing her blouse. The training makes a huge difference though and would 100 percent help people overcome the taboo – it’s key.”
Our intervention saved her life. Without our St John Ambulance training in December, we would not have had the courage to get involved and own the situation as we did.
