Lydia joined St John as the Head of Clinical Operations in October 2022. She qualified as a General Nurse in Staffordshire in 1988. On qualifying she went on to gain Operating theatre experience in The Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford and St Thomas’ in London. She qualified as a Theatre & Anaesthetic nurse in 1992 at Guy’s Hospital and took up a Sister post at Guy’s Nuffield House, London. In 1993, she joined the Royal Air Force as a Nursing officer retiring 28 years later as a Wing Commander. During her service career, she completed tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, specialised in Aeromedical evacuation and took up positions in aeromedical training for the RAF, medical planning with NATO, policy development for Defence Nursing, Recruitment, Clinical Governance, personnel management and medical logistics. During the pandemic she returned to the NHS to support the vaccination programme. Her previous job was as the Polyclinic Manager in the Athletes Village for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 which involved volunteer recruitment, role and venue specific training, medical planning, logistics. During games time, she managed 85 volunteer healthcare professionals per shift covering 11 venues across Birmingham providing physical therapies, imaging, optometry, dentistry, GP services, immediate emergency care and first aid.

She currently lives in Cheltenham and has a grown-up daughter, Abbi. A social butterfly, she likes to cook and entertain, loves all genres of music, enjoys musical theatre and has done Ceroc and amateur dramatics on and off over the years.

Stevie works in the Clinical Team as the Clinical Manager (Community Support, Training & Professional Support). Her role includes supporting clinicians of all kinds in the regions to operate safely within our assurance framework. She also advises on the clinical aspects of training, operations and community support orientated projects.

Stevie is a registered nurse and has managed the provision of care services in a variety of healthcare environments. She has been a practice nurse, a midwife and St John Ambulance trainer and NVQ assessor in the past. Stevie also has experience of pre-hospital care as an active volunteer with St John Ambulance.

Jo Eversfield

Jo, who joined St John Ambulance in August 2019, is the only non-clinical member of the team.  Her role as Clinical Project Officer involves developing and implementing new projects for the Clinical team, working closely with other departments across the organisation.

Jo previously worked in the Civil Service supporting the Defence Medical Services for many years, both in primary and secondary care.  Having recently completed an Operational First Aider course, Jo is looking forward to volunteering for the organisation in her spare time.

Rebecca Hunt

Becky joined St John Ambulance in December 2020 and is also a non-clinical team member. Her role as Clinical Project Officer involves developing and implementing new projects for the Clinical team, working closely with other departments across the organisation.

After various employments including a local NHS CCG, the Australian Victorian government, and running her own singing teaching business, Becky worked as maternity cover for Thurrock Young Carers’ Project Coordinator role. She still volunteers with this organisation and is looking forward to enrolling in the Vaccination Programme to widen her volunteering experience.

Sarah Barker 

Sarah joined St John Ambulance in Nov 2019. Previously working within the Events team Sarah joined the Medical and Clinical team as a non-clinical team member whilst assisting the Mass Vaccination Programme. Her role as a Clinical Project Officer involves managing clinical inboxes, coordinating Occupational Health, and supporting new projects for the Clinical team.

Whilst working as a Store Manager for Jaeger she began volunteering for Criminon UK as a distance learning tutor. She helped to deliver life skills courses to many UK prisoners which helps them to re-integrate into family life and maintain positive relationships for an effective rehabilitation. This volunteering work inspired Sarah to want to work within a charitable organisation, and so, she applied to work with SJA after nine years of working in retail.

I have now held this role for nearly four years and it has flown by! There have been many challenges and projects to get involved with; I’ve relished this and am looking forward to what is to come in 2024 and beyond!

I have been a member of St John Ambulance for fourteen years in total, having had a variety of roles in three different regions. I first joined as a First Aider in Shrewsbury after attending a first aid at work course. I then moved to Brighton for 12 months, becoming an Advanced First Aider. Upon qualifying as a pharmacist, I relocated to North Region and have been a volunteer member there for ten years.

I have previously held the role of Assistant to the Superintendent Pharmacist at a local small chain of community pharmacies, and now maintain clinical competence by working as a locum community pharmacist, outside of my time with St John Ambulance.

James has been a member of St John Ambulance since 1997, where he joined as a badger, completing the Grand Prior Award as a cadet and subsequently joined London’s Cycle Response Unit in 2009, where he remains an adult volunteer.

He is a registered paramedic, previously working for the London Ambulance Service and most recently as a Resuscitation Practitioner in a clinical trials facility. James is also a military reservist with the Royal Air Force and is part of the Defence Medical Services instructor faculty for Battlefield Advanced Trauma Life Support, Military Pre-Hospital Emergency Care and Advanced Life Support.

Helen joined St John early in 2019 as the National Wellbeing Lead to help imbed what was, the new MyWellbeing service. Since she joined us, she has streamlined or resources to make them easier to navigate but, more importantly, got involved with people at all levels to help them feel good and function well. The upside of the recent pandemic was that it put wellbeing well and truly on the map and is one of our top priorities as we move forward.

Prior to her appointment with St John, Helen gained a wealth of experience from jobs within social care, charities and the NHS in roles that included HR, employee retention, customer relations and, of course, wellbeing!

Helen is a keen runner, although relatively new to the sport. She started out doing the NHS Couch to 5k and went from being a non-runner to completing the Manchester Half Marathon in 2hr 7min proving that if she can anyone can!

David was appointed as OH manager in November 2021, he is a current St John Ambulance volunteer; his most recent primary role was District HR lead in Shropshire, Staffordshire and Wolverhampton. As OH Manager David will be responsible for ensuring that St John has suitable OH arrangements in place for all St John people.

David has spent most of his career working in large private sector companies, in senior specialist HR roles, this has included the management of OH services and company medical schemes. He also served with the Regular and Reserve Armed Forces, in the Royal Marines and Airborne Forces, finishing his career with 16 Air Assault Brigade.

David was also a Registered Nurse, and he is currently completing a Return to Practice programme with Wolverhampton University; he will maintain clinical competency as a Registered Nurse at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust.

David plans to continue as a St John volunteer, mainly as Trainer/Assessor and Cycle Responder, he has also recently completed the FREC course.
